Riding For Adults

We are open every day for lessons, hacks and week day evenings until 9pm for private and group lessons. We run training courses for ABRS exams throughout the year.
As we cater for all ages and abilities! Groups and individual are welcome for a for a one off hack or lesson or training for exams and competitions.
Why not come and have a go, you Adult competition winners can have a lesson indoors or a quiet trek or hack along the Mineral Tramways in what must be some of Cornwall’s most stunning scenery.

Example Schedule

Beach Riding At Gwithian

A chance for the big kids to find out what they have been missing out on – three miles of traffic-free golden sands!??Meet at Wheal Buller to load the horses. We will need a volunteer car driver as the horse box only seats three. Join up again at Gwithian to unload and ride. We will be spending about two hours on the beach. If you plan on splashing through the waves then leave the posh boots at home! A chance to have some fun, but if you wear the horse out at the far end of the beach you get to carry it back.
The cost is £70 a head and includes hire of horse and horse transport. Places are limited so watch out for the posters announcing departure times.

Swimming with the Horses

An afternoon hack to Carn Marth Lake for a swim with the horses. Bring a small rucksack, or similar, to carry a towel and spare shoes (trainers or short boots to wear in the water). A swimming costume, shorts and t-shirt or wetsuit are suitable to wear in the water. Saddles off, (provided) life-jackets on, mount up and into the water. Depart 2pm from Wheal Buller. The cost is £45 for the afternoon.

Day Ride to Devoran

A great chance to hack out towards the south coast for a contrast in scenery. Start at 11am – aiming to return for 4.30pm. Head South over the hills and through the trees and lanes to Devoran. The banks of the Carnon River are a great chance for some serious canters. A picnic lunch and then wind through the valleys and over the hills homeward.
The ride is approximately 25 miles (possibly a little more) and is suitable for intermediate and experienced riders.?The price of £65 does not include lunch. Watch out for posters giving details of dates.

Two Hour Hack & Pub Stop

A ride suitable for all of our adult hacking riders. The cost is £45 and includes two hours hacking with a half hour pub stop on the way (2½ hours in all). Speak to a member of staff for more details.

Learning to Jump

A six week course of one hour lessons aimed at riders who are comfortable in walk, trot and canter and who now wish to start jumping. Look out for posters giving course dates or speak to a member of staff. The course is discounted if paid in advance the cost is £125.

Dressage Course Level 1

A six week course of one hour lessons for those who want to investigate the discipline of dressage. The lessons are structured to build and improve on the previous week’s work. The course conclusion involves putting it all together with a scored dressage test! Look out for posters giving the course dates or speak to a member of staff. ABRS Stable Management & Riding Tests

We are running a number of courses following the syllabus for the Association of British Riding Schools Stable Management and Progressive rider Tests. It’s a great way to improve your confidence with horses both on the ground and in the saddle. We are currently running courses for stable management levels 1-7. Lessons will take place on a weekly basis on Sunday at 1pm and Friday at 5.30pm, with optional tests scheduled at regular intervals. More details..ABRS Test

Stable Management

Each lesson costs just £10.00 and there is a charge of £10.00 for each of the ABRS tests 1-4. We offer a discount of £5.00 if you pay for 2 lessons and a test in advance. For example, you pay £25.00 for Test 1 which covers two lessons and the charge for the test itself. Your instructor will enter you for the tests when you have reached the appropriate standard. We are currently sorting out the fees for the tests and this information will be available shortly.

Karen or Ruth will give a free demonstration on how to lunge a horse and explain about the equipment used the techniques and the benefits. Following the demonstration we will be running a 4 week course on lungeing consisting of 1 hour lessons to be run on Fridays at 6.30 or Sunday at 2pm. This would be suitable for people who wish to take the lungeing element of the ABRS Exam. The cost will be £60 if paid in advance you will get a free ABRS Guidlines book for Tests 1-10 with the lunge unit.
Morwenna will give a side saddle demonstration showing the aids and position.
This will include the opportunity for some people to have a go if they wish.

Strictly Come Dancing

All the group lessons will practice for this fun event finishing with an optional fancy dress display which will be videoed and judged by our customers on Facebook. Both adults and children’s teams winning teams will each win a giant rosette.

Dressage level 2

A six week course to improve your dressage.

Two Hour Hack & Pub Stop

A ride suitable for all of our adult hacking riders. The cost is £45 and includes two hours hacking with a half hour pub stop on the way (2½ hours in all). Speak to a member of staff for more details.

Cross-Country Jumping Course Starting

A six week course of one hour lessons suitable for those who are jumping in the school and who now want an introduction to cross-country jumping. A variety of jumps and obstacles, such as ditches and banks, will be included. The course is discounted if paid in advance. Days and times to be arranged. More details…Cross Country Course Schedule
A return of the popular mini distance challenge. The course will be revealed on the day. The competitors are provided with a route description and a target time to complete. There are penalties for competitors who are too quick or too slow. The aim is to pass all of the check points, following the course, and arriving on time.

This event is suitable for confident intermediate and experienced riders as competitors will be riding out unaccompanied by an instructor. The competition is open to juniors, and seniors in teams or as individuals. Rosettes will be awarded for 1st to 6th place. You may compete on your own horse or hire a sturdy Wheal Buller steed. Speak to a member of staff if you are interested in taking part. Look out for the posters!

It takes a lot of organising to put on this event and we always need people to help out on the day to help things run smoothly and successfully.
